"Through a Pinhole Brightly"
"Through a Pinhole Brightly investigates different translations of a single event. Inviting outside facts inside, to be known through different understandings, creating separate memories and divergent histories"
From Murray's exhibition "Holism"
I wanted to find a way that I could use my sensibilities to generate images whose medium was light. I felt that if I could remove as much technology from the photographic process I might be able to replace that technology with my sensibilities. That process of reduction generated clarity and opportunities. The pinhole camera seemed to be the simplest form of arranging light.
Technically, it left me with my sensitivity to light and films sensitivity to light. Aesthetically it gave itself to my intentions and curiosity. I make the cameras I use; they become tools of expression. I try to do all my work in the camera; leaving other creative opportunities aside. My exposed film is developed by a lab and then printed by a lab. Some images are traditional photographic prints others are digital prints.
