Grammar of Photography:BW

Photographs convey meaning by a unique visual grammar completely different from paintings or sculpture.

The purpose of this workshop is to better understand where photographic grammar is located and how it can be used to construct the meaning of a photograph. The focus will be on the particular grammar of black and white photography.

To define the particular grammar of the monochrome image we will examine the work of many photographers from the 19th century to the present. Participants will come away from this one day event with a greater understanding of how they can use the toolbox of visual grammar in their own work.
